Wow... your artwork for this chapter is really intense and evocative! The effects you've been experimenting with lately are top notch :) looking forward to reading more
Been awaiting moar, and just saw the tweet about life feelings versus art output. Hope you continue to feel better, but also hoping this project doesn't get dropped - Love reading it.
I realised you haven’t been updating in a while even before I started reading what I hadn’t covered of Helsirvenre since I left off last. It’s still prob one of my fav webcomics ever and what I hadn’t read only confirmed that. The gang is as charming as ever and I obviously you’ve levelled up the art here at the end too!
You do you and with best wishes and cake too because you’ve not a single obligation towards anyone but yourself if you decide never to pick this one up again... but damn I miss Edith and co!
Wow, what a blast this was to read so far. I wasn't sure what to expect when I came into this comic at first, other than there being ghosts, but this blew my expectations out of the water. There's so much to love about this comic.
All the characters are really cool and have fun personalities, including the enemies and other ghosts that they meet along the way. Out of everyone, I have to say my favorite character has to be Edith. She seems very straightforward at first, but she's got a bit of depth to her that's revealed as the story goes on. She is coolio and has a great sense of humor, but she is a bit out of her depth when it comes to most things in the story, even things that she seems confident about. It makes a lot of sense considering she's a teenager and she hasn't totally figured herself out yet. She just wants to fit in and seem like this really cool leader to her friends. Yet, that attitude gets her into a lot of trouble as well. Pretty much every chapter she goes in with this overconfidence that ends up biting her in the ass. Her friends are aware of this, but it's nice to see in Chapter 4 that they're being a lot more upfront and honest about it, considering how many mistakes she's made that have led them into very real danger.
And it helps that she has such cool friends as well to bounce off of her. Theo stands out to me, because he has the most experience with ghost hunting considering his brother yet he is very much a coward that doesn't want to do any of this. It's interesting to see him slowly change as well. He starts the story having a crush on Edith, but at least currently he seems to have outgrown it. Plus, despite his cowardice, he has shown moments of having a bit of courage, which is nice. And Zander and Sadie are pretty cool, too! But if I talk about literally every character we're going to be here all day, lol. But yeah, you've written some good stuff.
It's really cool seeing how much your art grows and changes over the course of this comic. It already started off looking pretty good, but you improved quite a lot by where you got to now while keeping the same sort of style. There's a lot of beautiful pages in this comic, and you do a good job at giving the backgrounds as much time and detail as the characters as well. It's easy to understand and feel where these characters are at all times, which is very good.
You're a really great writer. Not only are you able to keep a good pace on the story, but you've developed this atmosphere and tone to this comic which feels really cool and unique. I wasn't expecting so much comedy here, but I'm really glad it exists. You're a really funny person, khkddn, and you're able to show that through your characters very well. It's also really great because the characters have very individualized forms of comedy. Edith is probably the one who makes the most jokes and wisecracks among the group, but it makes sense based on her personality and character. There's a lot of awkward humor that lands perfectly (when I say "awkward humor" I mean in the sense that they're teenagers that are somewhat terrible at expressing themselves at times, which comes off really funny in certain moments). And the great thing is, your style of writing lends itself to having serious moments at time. It's not so outwardly zany that serious moments just come off weirdly, like it does in some stories that try the same thing.
Basically, this is all to say that I really like your comic, and I think you're pretty fucking cool, khkddn. Ever since coming on ComicFury and seeing your shitposts on Mediterranean Avenue quite a bit, I've thought you were a pretty cool person. And you are a pretty cool person! I'm really glad I've got to talk and interact with you. And now I've been able to read your comic as well. Whether or not you decide to continue on Helsirvente or start some other new comic or project, you can be sure that I'll be around to see it and admire it. I want to see the other cool stuffs that you make! Thanks for being awesome.
Haven't finished the shading in the final panel, will update it later. Thanks for being patient.Shaded version is up now :)
